Sunshine Coast Hospice Society - Support Services
Caregiver Support, End of Life Care / Palliative Care, and Mental Health - Adult
Provided by Sunshine Coast Hospice Society
- The Green Sleeve Advance Care Planning Program: Creating an Advance Care Plan (ACP) involves identifying who would make decisions on their behalf and ensuring the proper documentation is in place so the right person can represent their wishes.
- In-Person Grief Group: Hosts ongoing eight-week grief groups throughout the year at Hospice House in Davis Bay. Facilitated by trained volunteers, each weekly grief group provides the opportunity to gather with others experiencing the loss of a loved one in a nurturing and safe environment. Participants are encouraged to speak about their grief and learn ways to ease the emotional and physical symptoms of loss.
- 1 to 1 Support: Trained and compassionate volunteers can provide companionship and a listening ear for those facing a life-limiting illness, and support and short-term respite for their caregivers.
- Individual Peer Support: Sunshine Coast Hospice offers a compassionate community of trained volunteers who provide non-judgmental listening and emotional support for individuals experiencing difficult times. Volunteer companions are available to offer comfort and connection, so no one has to face their journey alone. Individuals interested in being paired with a trained volunteer companion are encouraged to contact the program.
- Complicated Grief Counselling Fund: A fund to help cover the initial costs of professional counselling for those who do not have the financial means. An interview and screening is required to access this resource.
- Healing Arts: This monthly workshop series uses creative activities and various art media to gently encourage expression, insight, and personal growth in a supportive environment. Participants explore new ways to tell their stories, express emotions without words, and honour their grief and the memory of their loved ones through art. No prior art experience is needed, just a willingness to try something new. Workshops take place in person at Hospice House in Davis Bay, typically on weekends from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, and are limited to eight participants.
- Caregiver Respite: Provides opportunities for caregivers to take time for themselves, to restore their physical, emotional and mental well-being.
- The Circle Wellness Day Program: The Circle provides a welcoming community of care and support to Sunshine Coast community members who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness. Activities such as art, music, movement and meditation are provided on Tuesday and Thursday mornings by community facilitators and trained volunteers. Lunch is included in this vibrant, free program.
